Abstract

|
Pure red cell aphasia is an uncommon syndrome characterized by findings of anemia, absence of erythroblasts in the marrow, absence of reticulocytesin the peripheral blood, and normal peripheral platelet and leucocytes counts. Its cause is usually obscure, and drugs have rarely been implicated. We are reporting a patient who developed pure red cell aphasia while taking diphenyldydantoin. He promptly recovered when the drugs were withdrawn.
